FINALLY someone gets it. If people witnessed the way my husband and I interacted, they would be hard pressed to figure out who was the “man”.

“There may be slight variations in the brains of women and men, added Fine, a researcher at Melbourne University, but the wiring is soft, not hard. “It is flexible, malleable and changeable…”

long article, but the topic of “boys and girls are intellecutally different” has been pissing me off lately so I felt this was relevant.

joys of a weekend

Have you ever had a meal so good, so nutrient rich, that you felt good for a long time? That was our meal on Saturday. Sunday came and I was still “high” from the meal the night before. I had a lovely holiday weekend with John. We walked, talked, ate and laughed.

The first photo was taken after we’d returned from the heavenly noshing at 12th street Bar and Grill in Brooklyn. I love black. You can dress it up, dress it down, make it sophisticated or make it blase.

The second photo, taken Sunday, is of a paper mache dress (how cool is that?), done for none other than Paper Couture. All of my favorite elements are there: lace-up detailing, tailored fit and the mandarin collar.

I love this city. I love its vibrancy (the fact that it was fashion week helped a little) and I love its panache; but the thing I love the most is the willingness for the most part to be individual and have personality. It’s why I came back.

Once again, that commercially sanctioned love fest known as Valentine’s Day will be upon us. I know, I know. You don’t celebrate that horrendous holiday. You share love 365 days a year. Who am I to tell you what to get?
Exactly. Which is why I am sharing my wishlist of ten things (5 today and 5 tomorrow) that I think would make for a great Valentine’s Day for me (I have to impose my opinion somewhere, right?).
1. Baby I am a star
http://www.starregistry.com/
Prince references aside, there is another website that offers stars for about 30 bucks but this was the first listing in Google. This is the gift for someone who likes constellations, or is an amateur astronomer/stargazer. My husband and I look for constellations and certain stars, so this gift makes a lot of sense.
2. Mmm, chocolate
http://www.thechocolateroombrooklyn.com/
I love chocolate. I love chocolate on illegal levels. Naturally, I love it when we go here to indulge in my our culinary fantasies.
3. The rack trap
http://www.theracktrap.com/
This little doohickey is perfect for when you have a great outfit on and don’t really have a purse to compliment it or when you don’t feel like carrying anything with you. Personally, I am tired of hiding things in my (sweaty) bra. Made for the club!
4. Self-made
I really enjoy homemade cards. I take solace in knowing that Elmer in Acqueetonka, KS didn’t just haphazardly pair poorly done “art” with his latest attempt at producing sappy sounding crap to have it shipped off to a plant to be mass produced. My auntie sends me cards with pictures of her cat, Aleister. I want your crappy handwriting. I want your thoughts, and most importantly, I want your effort.
5. Beat it
http://www.brooklynwt.com/
I like useful things. I live in New York. What is more useful in New York than going to a self-defense class? I know this isn’t NY circa 1977, but people have to know how to protect themselves. I would personally prefer mace, but with the legislation the way it is in New York, you’re lucky to walk with a whistle.
